Late Stage Mature Pre IPO Unicorns - PreIPOSwap.com

Investors need to remain Calm – and there’s an app for that now

PreIPOSwap.com New York, NY – 5/8/2022 — Markets have been unhinged to say the least.  Many are asking us how to hedge the controlled demolition of the US Dollar – other than the obvious Silver and Gold.  The answer is in hard commodities as well as tools that can make commodities, such as factories.  Another good investment in times like this is SAAS or software development (if you can find value, which will be the hard part).  There are many bargains in private markets now, with valuations coming down to more realistic levels.  Some companies are available at a fraction of what they were months ago.  We’re going to look at one in particular: Calm.  From Crunchbase:

Calm offers an application designed to help its users meditate and relax.  The company is driven by a mission to make the world happier and healthier by developing a range of digital and physical products that enhance mental fitness and alleviate some of the most important mental health issues of the modern age including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and stress. Calm was named by Apple as the 2017 iPhone App of the Year and by Google Play as an Editors’ Choice in 2018.  The company was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Let’s start with their self-proclaimed “World’s most relaxing TV ad” (it very well may be):

In a world where we are bombarded with aggressive ‘media missiles’ and other psychological operations, it’s not easy to ‘switch off’ our hectic life and take a break.  How many people take walks outside, even if only to walk the dog?  The Calm app is all that and more – it’s relaxation on the go.

Investing in that has a bright future.  The more times get tough, the more people will want to de-stress, so the argument goes.  Investing in Pre IPO Markets is for accredited investors only – to get Calm and others checkout LevelX Pre IPO.  We are not affiliated with Calm and do not receive any compensation for this article and it is not an advertisement for Calm.  Pre IPO markets provide a diverse set of investments across a number of sectors and some of them are disruptive and thus do not fit into your normal index.  As such, Crediblock.com as part of our Second Sight analysis service will do a deep dive into hot Pre IPO companies, sectors, or trends.  For example, Air BNB (ABNB) was a Pre IPO Unicorn before the IPO which changed how people stay on vacation (as opposed to the traditional flight and hotel combo).  Palantir (PLTN) is an intelligence analytics platform, and is another example of a disruptive startup success story.  Of course, not all startups end up being such success stories, and many fail.  The risk math of VCs is that you are going to lose on 90% or even 95% of deals (or breakeven) but the few percent that do well could do really well.  Analytics firm CB Insights even has a Startup Graveyard where they provide bi-annual post mortems for failed startups, you can see it here.

Calm sponsors relaxing content to promote its app, such as books, movies, and even a documentary on HBO Max, from Wikipedia:

On December 1, 2016, Calm launched an initial range of 23 Sleep Stories, with the aim of helping adult listeners sleep.[16]  Sleep Stories include archival recordings of Bob Ross,[17] classical and ambient music including compositions by Johannes Brahms, Sigur Rós, deadmau5, and Moby, as well as original stories and public domain fiction read by narrators including LeBron James, Stephen Fry, Lucy Liu, Idris Elba, Kate Winslet,[18] Beatie Wolfe, Danai Gurira, Joanna Lumley, Jerome Flynn, Terry W. Virts, Clarke Peters, Richard Hamilton, Cillian Murphy, Kelly Rowland, ASMR content creator Emma “WhispersRed“ Smith, League of Legends voice actor Erik Braa, Peter Jefferson, Freema Agyeman, Eva Green, LeVar Burton, Laura Dern, Nick Offerman, Harry Styles[19][20] and Matthew McConaughey, who began collaborating with the company in 2018.[21] Leona Lewis contributed narration to the sleep stories in 2018, supporting (RED)’s Global Fund to end AIDS, providing a day’s worth of life- saving HIV medication to 100,000 people.[22]  The company also produced a nature documentary series for HBO Max, titled A World Of Calm, featuring narration from Elba, Liu, Murphy, Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Keanu Reeves, Priyanka Chopra, Mahershala Ali, and Oscar Isaac.[23][24]

Calm has achieved notoriety and has even received attention from Globalist spewsletter The Atlantic (click here to open).

Since the company is private there is no official statistics on revenue growth, or other metrics that one would expect from a publicly traded company.  Their app had at least 100 Million downloads by 2020 and according to some sources was making $150 Million in revenue in 2019.  There isn’t really a competitor for the app itself (obviously you don’t need the app to meditate and if you live in a serene setting you can’t compete with looking at the real thing..) so Calm is in a position to continue their growth trajectory.

Calm also offers breathing exercises, white noise / relaxing sounds (anyone with kids knows how useful this can be), and other interesting features.  Let’s enjoy a free Calm rainstorm:

Like most apps it costs nothing to download and check it out so why not give it a try.  calm.com

Here’s our shot at a relaxing, calming featured image.  Incidentally, Crediblock.com loves the idea of using nature and soothing phenomenon for digital productions.

In fact, Crediblock.com media operates a blog Thought2Go.com which offers interesting and thought provoking content.  Some of that content is relaxing music, or articles to help stimulate the relaxation station in your brain (See Thought2Go.com Music).

The media unfortunately uses the lowest common denominator which is the reptilian brain.  It’s not easy to switch it off, and meditation is not easy.  Meditation masters will recommend getting a teacher, or taking a class.  Here’s where the app can be helpful.  In a way, Silicon Valley has tried to monetize a basic treat of life.  An app can never compete with the real thing (such as sitting on a beach in Hawaii) but you can take the beach with you anywhere.  It isn’t always possible to sit on a beach.  With our busy lives for some of us – all we have is the app.
